About happy roots
WHAT WE DO
Happy Roots Foundation is a private charitable foundation, founded in 2019. We are committed to supporting the healthy development of children’s minds and bodies.
We have devoted 2020 to research and outreach in the community, to learn more about where we can make the most meaningful impact on children and families in our region.
Our small team is working on a comprehensive strategic plan with a view to making a long term contribution to children’s mental health and wellness.
SUPPORT FOR OTTAWA
Our Response to COVID-19
COVID-19 has touched all of us in ways big and small, including kids. In light of this emergency situation, Happy Roots is making 20 donations of $10,000 each to hardworking organizations that provide food security, safe homes, or mental health supports to children and their parents in our community. This fits our mission to fund programs that work to support the healthy development of kids’ brains and bodies.
WHO WE HELP
WHO WE ARE
Linsey Sherman-Zekulin & Mark Zekulin
Linsey & Mark are deeply connected to the communities of Ottawa, Smiths Falls, and Carleton Place. As a lawyer, Linsey spent a decade devoted to helping families work through the difficult and often complex process of separation and divorce. She has been a frequent writer and speaker on a variety of family law issues and an advocate for family justice reform. She is a regular face at her daughters’ school, and loves working with kids. Linsey was born and raised in Nepean, and is a graduate of both Carleton University and uOttawa.
Mark is the former President & co-CEO of Canopy Growth Corporation, a multi-billion dollar, NYSE-traded cannabis company headquartered in the Ottawa and Smiths Falls region. As a founding employee, Mark was instrumental in establishing the Company’s leadership team, vision, strategy, and culture. He holds law degrees from the University of Ottawa and the University of Cambridge, and was voted one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2018. He has recently been named a Fellow at the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship at Ryerson University.
Monique brings her drive and experience running non-profit organizations from kitchen tables to Happy Roots, adding seven years of government relations experience to the team. A lawyer and classmate of Linsey & Mark’s, she is delighted to collaborate with them on this project. Fueled by coffee, sparkling water, and chocolate, when she’s not working at Happy Roots, she is running after her dog, her two kids and teaches a masters course in Communications at uOttawa. Prior to joining Happy Roots, Monique was a VP at a national industry association.
