We imagine a community where all children have the support they need to develop healthy minds and bodies.

Our Mission

Our mission is to nurture infant and early childhood mental health by tackling adversity in the early years of life and fostering supportive relationships between young kids and their caregivers.

Our Core Values

We collaborate with others to make a meaningful difference.
We seek creative approaches to move the needle.
We are energized by a challenge.

Our Team

Linsey has a decade of experience as a lawyer and mediator, working with families through the difficult and complex process of separation and divorce. She has been a frequent writer and speaker on a variety of legal issues and an advocate for family justice reform. Linsey is a graduate of both Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, and is currently undertaking a graduate degree in Nonprofit Management at Columbia University. Linsey’s daytime hours are devoted to Happy Roots, and she also serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Lanark County Interval House and Community Support. Linsey’s word for 2021 is: Intention.

Mark Zekulin, Founder & Director, Board of Directors

Mark is the former President & co-CEO of Canopy Growth Corporation, a multi-billion dollar, Nasdaq-traded cannabis company headquartered in the Ottawa and Smiths Falls region. He holds law degrees from the University of Ottawa and the University of Cambridge, and was voted one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2018. Currently, Mark serves as a Fellow at the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship at Ryerson University and is Chair of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa. Mark’s word for 2021 is: Pivotal.

Scott Sherman, Director, Board of Directors

Fundamentally a people person, Scott has spent his professional career connecting with his clients, from their offices to their kitchen tables. He has a business degree with a minor in economics from the University of Guelph, where he also played two sessions of junior hockey. Scott is an avid hockey player and golfer, and is active in his community as a hockey and baseball coach. Scott’s word for 2021 is: Transformative.

Monique Moreau, Executive Director

Monique has a decade of legal experience in international and domestic issues and over seven years of management in government relations, public affairs and communications in the not-for-profit sector. Prior to joining Happy Roots, Monique was a VP at a national industry association, and she brings with her a rich background in Board service and governance. A classmate of Linsey and Mark’s, she obtained her law degree from the University of Ottawa where she now also teaches a course in Communications at the Master’s level. Monique’s word for 2021 is: you do you (ok, three words!).
